WHAT IS TOPOGRAPHY OF MEMORY?

Topography of Memory is an eight-day workshop focusing on Memoir Writing, Contemplative Walking, and Drawing led by artist Angela Ellsworth (www.aellsworth.com) and writer Tania Katan (www.taniakatan.com) at the celebrated organic agricultural estate Tenuta di Spannocchia just south of Siena, Italy. Workshop participants explore personal and cultural histories by navigating the possibilities of line. Moving pencil across a piece of paper, inscribing text in a notebook, and walking lines in the landscape.

WILL I GET ONE-ON-ONE TIME WITH ANGELA AND/OR TANIA?

Yes. In addition to group writing, walking and drawing exercises, Angela and Tania will be available to meet individually and offer feedback/guidance on your creative writing, visual art, and performance projects.

SOUNDS AMAZING, BUT WHERE WILL I SLEEP?

In a Villa, if that’s ok with you. All bedrooms are furnished with antiques and original family-owned furniture, have views of the Villa garden and valley below the olive and fruit orchards.  Guests staying in the Villa receive daily cleaning service. Each room is set up for double occupancy with private bath.

IS THE FOOD AT TENUTA di SPANNOCCHIA REALLY WORLD RENOWNED?

Yes! All the vegetables, meat, wine, olive oil, and honey are organically grown/cultivated on the farm and prepared by Graziella Capanni who has been cooking at Spannocchia for generations. She prepares traditional, four-course Tuscan meals every night that might go something like this: an antipasto of sliced, raw porcini mushrooms with large flakes of parmesan cheese, lemon and olive oil; then, first course, hand-made lasagna; second course, venison with roasted fennel and potatoes; third course, salad; and finally, chocolate and chestnut truffles. This is why Spannoccia has been featured in Bon Appétit, Los Angeles Times, and Condé Nast Traveller.

A daily schedule and recommended books are sent once accepted into the workshop.
